Hello name is John. Thank you for visiting the website. I am a disable veteran, I served with the 101st airborne 1/502nd infantry. As you can probably tell I am very active in VOIP Echolink Amateur radio. I have been fortunate to have partipated in various emergency and Special events via the Echolink software. During the Tsunami relief net, Nasa Space shuttle recovering and Hurricane katrina net were I was able to put my advanced FEMA Emergency management training and military communications background to use.
Partipation in several special event nets including the New York City 9/11 Commemorative Net. The Tsunami Relief Net and conducting an interview with Jonathon K1RFD creator of the Echolink program have been some of my personal highlights within the amatuer radio community.

The Commemorative 9/11 Net effort was spearheaded by Len Signoretti, N2LEN. Scott Schmautz, WB2UZR, served as the net control. The linkup relied on either EchoLink or eQSO Internet software connections. The net logged more than 400 checkins in most or all 50 US states plus "a tremendous amount of international activity," Signoretti said. "We were pleased and surprised," Signoretti said of the turnout, which exceeded all expectations. He credited publicity on the ARRL Web site and elsewhere for attracting such a huge crowd. Originally planned to run about two hours, the net overshot that goal by more than 90 minutes. It was so touching for everyone," said Signoretti, who credited Bob Raymer, N2BR, Greg Germek, KC3MN, and John Powell, W8BAD, for assisting as "sub net controllers." Signoretti and Johnny Davis, K5JD, worked in the background to make sure all the associated server hardware continued in operation. Signoretti said response to the net has been "tremendous," and he hopes to somehow make available audio of the entire network.

The world held it's breath on December 26th / 2004 as the single largest disaster in recent history ravaged Asia, and as the death toll mounted the global community sprang into action and aid began to pour in from every corner. Bonded by tragedy people have
contributed all they can to help financially, but a group of hobbyists, spurred by the actions of one man are doing more.
Echolink,IRLP and HF 7.060 mhz phone has been set and ready for emergency traffic as well as health and welfare traffic to the effected area. However those wishing to pass traffic do to 3rd party restrictions both here in the U.S. and canada are unable to do so. E-mail via several stations in the effected area your best bet the stations in the effected area are trying there best to get the info out. I understand canada has been trying to lift the 3rd party restrictions within the last fews hours. For those just looking for information you can join in via the Alaska and canada conference servers. There have been several stations passing information from the effected area's and have been receiving updates from officials. For the latest up to date info join one one the conference's mentioned above. There is a special hotline 1784 department of disaster prevention. Ministry of thailand. For those who have relatives they think may be in the effected area.

1. I have a daughter in Sri Lanka, Rachel Turner. She is 29, has long dark brown hair, brown eyes, and is in the southern portion of the island that got hit by the tsunami. We are trying to find her.
2. My family is looking for our cousin who was on holiday in Sri Lanka. His name is Nathan Condi and he is from Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. We have not heard from him yet. If any one knows if he is OK, please e-mail.
3. am looking for Chamila Somaskandan, traveling in Sri Lanka with her mom, dad and sister. They left Britain around December 22, and we haven't heard from them since.
4. We are missing our parents who were in Mirissa, between Galle and Matara, Sri Lanka. They are Dutch citizens and their names are Anne van der Valk (grey-blond hair, half-long, 1.60 m, age: 59) and Jan-Willem van der Valk (dark hair, 1.84 m, slim, age: 60).
5. We are searching for my brother, Fernando Bengoechea. We know that he was swept by the waves with his friend Nate Berkus and then separated. Nate has been rescued, but Fernando is still missing. They were in Sri Lanka at the Stardust Beach Hotel in Arugam Bay. He is 39 years old, white, 5'8", brown hair, green eyes and has braces in his teeth.
